All the moon talk today has made me think of “In the Shadow of the Moon”—a documentary about the Apollo missions that came out in 2007.  I really liked the movie, and especially liked Michael Collins, the 3rd guy from the Apollo 11 mission, who didn’t get to walk on the moon because someone had to guard the spacecraft.  (You know, in case it got lost).

Apparently in an HBO miniseries about the moon landing, Michael Collins made the following suggestion as to what Armstrong should say upon stepping onto the lunar surface: “If you had any balls, you’d say ‘Oh, my God, what is that thing?’ then scream and cut your mic.”

Ha, that would’ve been a lot funnier than “One small step…”, but I guess for posterity’s sake Armstrong probably got it right!
